Earthquake
A 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck off the shore of Northern California, leaving thousands of households without power.
The quake, which ran about 13.5 miles deep, hit offshore at 4:27 p.m. (7:27 p.m. ET) Saturday, about 33 miles from the coastal city of Eureka, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
About 28,000 customers, most of them in Humboldt County, were left without power Saturday evening, said Jeff Smith, spokesman for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. One gas leak in the county was also reported.

Full Body Scanning
This is what the proposed airport full body scans will actually look like:
Definitely some naughty bits visible which causes legal problems in Britain due to child pornography laws.

Mort Drucker of Mad Magazine
If you draw, cartoon or like Mad Magazine this is a must see. It features Mort Drucker, the guy who draws the Mad movie satires.
This clip gives a tour of Mort’s studio, a great instant lesson on drawing hands and a lot of really good background information.

Ebay by Weird Al Yankovic
The excellent Weird Al Yankovic “Ebay” song. The tune is “I want it? that way” by the Backstreet Boys.

Bono’s Top 10 List for the Next Decade
This is probably the first and last New Year top 10 list that was worth the time it took to read. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed others but this one actually made me think long after I’d sent my browser on it’s way to yet another distraction targeted at the attention depleted:
By way of an introduction, Bono’s own words:
The main difference, if it matters, is that this list looks forward, not backward. So here, then, are 10 ideas that might make the next 10 years more interesting, healthy or civil. Some are trivial, some fundamental. They have little in common with one another except that I am seized by each, and moved by its potential to change our world.

Old People Knit and Read Newspapers
Now we know what Fisher Price think that old people do with their days.
Grandma and Grandpa love to enjoy their favorite thingsāknitting and reading the paper! These loving grandparents and their suitcase are the perfect addition to any of the Little PeopleĀ® play sets.
Wonder if Grandpa was reading the article about the stereotyping of old people.
Time for my afternoon snooze, bye.

Happy New Year
A happy, healthy and prosperous New Year and New Decade to all. (I know that technically it might not be a new decade but I don’t care).
Have a great 2010
HP Inkjet Ink is Really Really expensive
A graph of the relative price per unit measure of different liquids courtesy of Reflectionof.me. Check out the site for a really nerdy discussion about the validity of the data, chosen price points and the comparisons being made.
HP printer ink come out on top which doesn’t surprise me one bit and is exactly why my main printer is a monochrome laser model.
